Description

each door of rectangular form with a border of carved inscriptions enclosing another rectangle divided into eleven sections, each featuring an inscription

Condition

Both doors in fairly good condition, with some scratches and abrasion to wood consistent with age, as viewed.

inscriptions

In the border, starting from the left panel, ending on the right panel: Parts of the prayer called jawshan kabir, followed by Qur'an, chapters LXI (al-Saff), part of verse 13 and XL (Ghafir), part of verse 44

In the central panel of the left door: Qur'an, chapter LXVIII (al-Fath), verses 1-2, followed by:

hadha 'amal-e ostad ghulam husayn ibn zayn al-'abidin marhum kalishami ghafar allah dhunubihi/sana ihda wa khamsin ba'd alf .... (the words 'it was endowed by' has been changed/damaged)  Mahmud ibn Muhammad khan

'This is the work of master Ghulam-Husayn son of the deceased Zayn al-'Abidin Kalishami – may God forgive his sins – in the year one thousand and fifty one (1641-2).  [This was endowed] by Mahmud ibn Muhammad Khan'

Followed by: Qur'an, chapters CVI (Quraysh) and CV (al-Fil).

On the sides of the top arch: repetition of an invocation to Imam 'Ali and the repeat of a different invocation at the bottom.

In the central panel of the right door:  The nada 'ali quatrain followed by a prayer invoking the 'Fourteen Innocents' and the call to God to bless them all.

On the sides of the top arch: the same inscription as the left door and the repeat of a different invocation to 'Ali at the bottom.
