Le fauteuil Tired Man Easy Chair fut réalisé un an après le succès remporté  lors de la compétition organisée par la Cabinet-Makers Guild Furniture en 1935. Lassen a repris les formes du fauteuil dessiné à cette occasion, mais seuls quelques rare exemplaires avaient été réalisés,  tous avec quelques légères variantes résultant du caractère unique de leur commandes. Certaines d'entre elles sont documentées avec des pieds en métal chromé, d'autres présentent des courts pieds en bois de forme cylindrique tel notre fauteuil, plus proche du projet initial de 1935.
Comme l'indique Arne Karlsen dans sa notice sur ce fauteuil, l'intention de Lassen était de créer pour la personne assise dans le fauteuil l'effet de se sentir tel un ourson au milieu de la banquise mais en sécurité et au chaud dans les bras de sa mère (p. 144)

 

TheTired Man Easy Chair followed on from the award-winning 'Furniture for a bachelor's apartment' project that Lassen designed for the Cabinet-Makers' Guild Furniture Competition in 1935. Lassen revised the large armchair from this project but very few examples were known to have been produced and all have minor variations, reflecting the commission-led basis on which they were produced. Some are documented with chromium plated metal runners, whereas others have squat wooden cylindrical feet, as in the current lot, which follow the design for the earlier 1935 armchair. As Karlsen notes (op.  cit. p.144) 'the architect's intention was for the person in the chair to sit "as warmly and safely as a polar-bear cub in the arms of his mother in the middle of the ice cap".
