La collection de mobilier grec antique dessinée par T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings est le résultat de plus de vingt années d'études et compréhension du mobilier grec antique visible sur la statuaire, les fresques et poteries des musées du monde entier. Exposée pour la première fois à Athènes le 31 mai 1961 et éditée exclusivement par Saridis depuis, cette collection fût acclamé et reçu la plus grande attention par la presse spécialisée, notamment Life, Connaissance des Arts, ou encore The New York Times.
L'ensemble de mobilier et objets présentés du lot 115 à 123 fait partie d'une commande réalisé par Monsieur et Madame Lewis F. Wheelock en 1974 pour leur appartement athénien, situé dans le quartier résidentiel de Metz, face à l'Acropole. La totalité du mobilier fût dessiné par Robjohn-Gibbings et édité par Saridis, et est resté dans la famille depuis l'origine.

The following collection designed by of T.H Robsjohn Gibbings who studied and assimilated the forms of antique Greek furniture seen on statuary, frescoes and pottery in museums around the world for over twenty years and their influence is clearly visible in his work. First shown in an exhibition in Athens on May 31st 1961 and then produced exclusively by the Greek cabinetmaking firm Saridis, his furniture was critically acclaimed by contemporary commentators, including Life, Connaissance des Arts and the New York Times.
The pieces of furniture and objects presented from lot 115 to lot 123 are part of a group commissioned by Mr and Mrs. Lewis F. Wheelock in 1974 for their Athens apartment in the residential neighbourhood of Metz, which is appropriately positioned in front of the Acropolis. It has remained with the family ever since.

Bon état général. La console : Quelques coups et enfoncements sur le plateau, dessèchement du vernis et plusieurs éclats au verni, notamment sur le tranches du plateau. Plusieurs fine rayures d'usage et traces d'humidité sur l'ensemble du plateau, l'ensemble d'usage. Plusieurs petits coups et enfoncements le long des pieds. La lampe en bon état général. Deux éclats le long de deux angles au marbre. Traces d'oxydations au bronze, l'ensemble d'usage. Le tissu de l'abat jour présente plusieurs traces de salissures et usures. The console : a few dents and chips to the top, drying up to the varnish at some places and some chips to the varnish at the edges of the top . Thin scratches of use and traces of humidity all over the surface, all consistent with normal use and age. The lamp is in good overall condition. Two chips along the corners of the marble. Traces of oxidizing to the bronze. The fabric of the lamp-shade is dirty and used at some parts.
