Both panels are backed on cardboard and toned as visible on the illustration in the catalogue. Some scratches to the upper right of the painting with peacocks and a few other lighter horizontal surface scratches on the lower register. Some wear to the enamels on the pink peonies and a few water stains to the upper left. The panel with a phoenix has a few light scratches in areas to the surface and some water stains to the upper left corner and another to the right near the signature and seal.
