Description

Condition

The Bodhisattva figure is in overall good condition, with expected wear consistent with age as visible on the photo. The gilt lacquer is worn in sections with remaining traces of old red lacquer. The gilding still covers most of the front, the crown and some areas on the back. Some of the inlaid stones are likely to be later replacements. The lotus stand is of the same period as the figure and is most probably associated with it. There is an old chip to the swirling clouds section on the left rear of the base, as well as a few old dents to the edges. The base also has worn gilding and has later added red paint as visible on the photo. There is a 5cm crack in the cast on the back and a smaller one across the front stretcher of the base. A 15 cm section of the upper right border of the mandorla is chipped and missing (visible on the illustration in the catalogue).
