Catalogue Note

This hatstand is notable for the quality of the preservation of the ornate gilt-painted design which emerged as a popular decorating technique during the Qianlong period. No other related example appears to have been published. For a reticulated revolving hatstand of similar form, but with a short base and a six-character Qianlong reign mark to the base, see one in the National Palace Museum included in the exhibition Stunning Decorative Porcelains from the Ch'ien-lung Reign, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 2008, cat. no. 75; and another of lobed form and with a tall bell-shape foot, illustrated in Kangxi. Yongzheng. Qianlong. Qing Porcelain from the Palace Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1989, p. 428, pl. 110.
