The zitan carved frame is in good condition with the exception of a few minor chips or dents along the edges of the design. Several sections of the inlaid design are ether reaffixed, replaced or missing. The later replacements include : the right section of the bridge together with the two scholars on it, the wood boat to the immediate upper right of the bridge, the trunk of the tree to the lower right as well as the group of 3 people standing to the right of it ; some elements of the design are incomplete (some branches of the trees are missing, a part of the cloud on the upper right, or reaffixed incompletely, but overamm the restoration work is quite successfull ; the light blue lacquer ground is rather soiled with a few age cracks showing on the catalogue illustration.
