Il est exceptionnel que la poignée d'un idiophone lawle soit ornée, comme ici, d'une sculpture figurative. cf. Vogel (1987 : 152) pour un maillet de gong provenant de la collection Helena Rubinstein, représentant dans sa partie supérieure un personnage féminin. Le masque de guli à tête de buffle indique que l'instrument servait à la sortie nocturne de ce masque (Féau in AFAA, 1989 : 198). Très belle patine d'usage, brillante sur les parties saillantes, grumeleuse dans les creux, mettant en valeur la douceur des galbes.
