Very good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Woven bindings intact and in good condition. No breaks to the attachment fork. Fine aged patina overall.

Catalogue Note
Les carquois de Bornéo – dont les deux présentés ici sont exceptionnels – étaient portés à la taille, leur fourche en bois lourd à deux branches glissée sur le pagne du porteur (cf. photo ci-dessous).
Dominant la fourche, s'épanouit la figure élégante d'Aso – créature surnaturelle omniprésente dans l'art de Bornéo, associant les traits du chien à ceux du dragon - qui se distingue ici par ses yeux bleus, en perles de verre. Sa représentation complète (tête et corps), comme ici, était exclusivement réservée aux membres de hauts lignages. Placée à l'opposé, la baguette en bois est superbement ouvragée de motifs en volutes, à la fois ornementales et fonctionnelles – servant à maintenir la fine ligature de rotin. Très beau couvercle en bois sculpté, à patine profonde.
