Good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Losses to the top of the shield, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Signs of use in combat to the surface, some cracks, scratches, and losses. Inventory number 'N/A 92' on the rear. Fine polychrome surface.

Catalogue Note

"Les guerriers Maring attribuaient aux couleurs vives des motifs ornant leurs boucliers le pouvoir d'impressionner et d'effrayer leurs ennemis. Ils prenaient toute leur force lorsqu'ils étaient présentés en groupe, en mouvement et à distance" (Lowman, 1973 : 31). La beauté abstraite de ce bouclier est accentuée par le contraste entre les larges aplats polychromes et la vivacité du décor pointillé cernant les motifs.
