Condition

The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration although the overall tonality is lighter in the original. The work is in very good condition. Surface cracks are visible in the grey impasto located in the upper left quadrant.

" Je commence par ébaucher la composition à l'aide de quelques coups de fusain ou de pastel : c'est le squelette du tableau, toujours assez élastique. Les première vagues de couleur le modifient, mais ne le font pas disparaître complètement. Puis j'approfondis les formes et j'étudie leur rapports en me préoccupant de la technique et de la couleur... ."
