Description
- The Death of Saphira
- oil on panel
- 72 x 111.5 cm.
Provenance
KPA
Condition
The actual painting is less red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of two horizontal planks. The panel is uncradled and bevelled on all sides. The panel has a very faint bow. The join is visible to the front. No major damages are apparent but there are few tiny paint losses to the lower right. There are few surface scratches lower centre right and in the background upper centre. The paint layer is secure. Tiny scattered discoloured retouchings are visible in the wall in the background along the wood grain, and there are some minor ones in the group of figures.
Inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish which is very dirty and yellowed.
Offered in a plain wood frame with moulded gilt fillets, with damage in the upper right corner.
