Catalogue Note
By repute this glass service was part of the dowry of Anna Paulowna (1795-1865), the daughter of the Russian czar Paul I. On February 21, 1816, she married the later King Willem II (1792-1849) in St. Petersburg. The Royal couple resided in Brussels and The Hague. After 1830 many of her belongings were moved from Brussels to their summer residence Paleis Soestdijk, including a St. Petersburg Imperial Porcelain dinner service from her dowry. The inventory of the dowry does list decanters and glasses as 'effets pour la table en verre taillé', vases 'pour le Dessert' and a 'service de verre taillé pour le laitage', but the exact reference for this service, and thereby place of manufactory (possibly England or Russia), cannot be determined at present.
