Catalogue Note
The service was used by Koningin Juliana and Prins Bernhard for lunches in their private dining room at Soestdijk until the mid-1980's. Alternative to the formal dinners held in De Witte Eetzaal (The White Dining Hall), the Eetkamer (Dining Room) was used for the private dinners. The furnishings in this room were a gift from the former Netherlands Antilles. Prins Bernhard set stringent dining times: lunch was served at 1 pm and dinner at 7.45 pm. A gong was struck fifteen minutes in advance and anyone arriving too late would miss out on the meal. The lunch was referred to as noenmaal (noon meal) and dinner as avonddis (evening dish).
