Description

  • 90 cm. high
the inverted bell top case with gilt brass pineapple finials, caryatid corner mounts, carrying handles, mouldings and feet, carved wooden frets, glased sides and back door, the engraved gilt and silvered bronze dial with missing mock pendulum, apertures for day, date and moonphase, subsidairies for Slaan/niet Slaan and Speelen/niet Speelen and a selector for the twelve different tunes, the brass six pillared three train fusee and chain movement with anchor escapement with replaced suspension, rack striking on a bell and cylinder playing each hour or at will one of the 12 different tunes with 30 hammers on 15 bells, with finely engraved backplate, part of inventory label underneath; inv. no. PLV 610 (3)

Condition

Fair condition, stained, case overall with most minor veneer losses and cracks, losses to the frets, silvering and gilding of the dial and mounts with some rubbing and/or oxidation, top loose, glass front and back doors lacking, usual ageing, movement with altered pendulum suspension, showing various loose holes indicating restorations, possible alterations or losses (for instance originally with Dutch or quarter striking and/or repeater) to the mechanism, musical mechanism seems complete but together with movement not in properly working order, good piece in need of restorations; with winder and later pendulum.
