Description

  • Gerard Hoet
  • Rinaldo and Armida
  • oil on canvas, shaped top and bottom, unframed
  • 96.4 x 73.3 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is a little less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old stiff relining. There is some frame abrasion along the edges and some surface scratches to the upper centre. Otherwise, no major damages are apparent. The paint layer is a little thin in some places. The paint surface is under a very dirty varnish layer. Some tiny scattered retouchings are visible with the naked eye, e.g. in Rinaldo's face. Inspection under UV light is impeded with the dirty varnish layer. This lot is offered unframed.
