from the border of a large pavement, depicting in multicolored tesserae on a black ground two fish swimming to left within scrolling acanthus leaves.

Condition
Tesserae embedded in heavy steel-reinforced concrete slab roughly one inch thick. Impressions of fabric once used to remove stones from their original bedding still visible around the edges. A handful of tesserae damaged, missing, or covered in grout. Small areas of minor restoration must be assumed, even though they are not visible. Entire surface of fragment has been covered in wax, which has turned yellowish over time. Corners of concrete slab chipped.
