Description
- A Marble Votive Stele, probably Moesia

- 28 3/4 by 22 1/2 by 3 in. 73 by 57.2 by 7.6 cm
carved in the upper register with Jupiter and Juno each holding a scepter and pouring a libation onto an altar, two eagles at their feet, and in the lower register with a row of deities comprising Ceres holding a torch with entwined serpent in her left hand and a sheaf of grain over a sacrificial bowl in her right hand, Hercules holding a club and lion skin, Libera holding a bunch of grapes and a scepter, Liber (Dionysos) holding a vine in his left hand and pouring wine from a vessel(?) onto a crouching animal, Pan, and a figure emerging from a vat and holding a scepter, the arched top and the bottom of the stele each engraved with two lines of Latin inscription.

Condition
As shown, note minor chips to base, top right corner, and to the middle of right edge, where a horizontal crack runs through to Juno’s knee, various minor nicks, scratches, and areas of incrustation.

Catalogue Note
The dedication at the top reads: "(To) J(upiter) Optimus M(aximus), Juno Q(ueen), Hercules undefeated, Liber, Libera, and Ceres."
The inscription at the bottom is more difficult to interpret. It appears to record the dedication of the stele by the inhabitants of a village (vicus) through the agency of a local official named Clodius Iulius.
