Description

  • An Attic Black-figured Olpe
  • Terracotta
  • Height at rim 8 7/8 in. 22.7 cm.
painted with two dancing maenads, vine branches in the field, dotted zigzag and meander bands on the neck, checkerboard on the rim.

Condition

Repaired and with areas of restoration, including one visible below the painted scene in front. Some of the restoration is deteriorating, especially around the lower part of the vessel. Most of the added white paint including the faces of the maenads is gone. The painted scene is less affected by restoration than the remainder of the vessel.
