  • A Marble Trapezophoros Fragment with Herm Head of Dionysos, Roman Imperial

  • Total height 9 1/4 in. 23.5 cm.
the separately carved head inserted into the top of the table leg, his face with long mustache and full beard of tiered overlapping curls each with drilled voluted ends, his wavy hair bound in a fillet and wreath of ivy leaves and berries, the ends of his fillet over the shoulders.

French private collection, Avignon, 1950s

Condition

Note missing cluster of ivy berries above proper right of forehead and chipped cluster above proper left, edges of most ivy leaves abraded or lightly chipped, tips of beard and nose chipped, as well as underside of lower lip, upper molding of table leg is chipped all around and top surface has a square cavity on top filled with mortar or cement.
