Description

  • An Attic Red-figured Cup, attributed to the Brygos Painter
  • Terracotta
  • Diameter at rim 7 9/16 in. 19.2 cm.
with spreading foot and offset rim, the tondo painted with a seated youth holding a staff and wearing a long cloak draped over the lower part of his body, his right hand clasped to his left shoulder, a lyre suspended in the field.

Provenance

acquired in Rome in the mid to late 1960s

Condition

Repaired from two large fragments and two smaller fragments with in-painting along areas of black glaze, main break line runs across face and upper body of seated figure as shown, losses to glaze on one handle and surrounding area below rim.

There is an old sticker with cut corners and red border under the foot inscribed in ink "5859 / Se(?)."
