  • one dated 1 VIII 1946 8h du soir l.l.;  the other signed and inscribed in Latin l.r., dated 10 VIII 1946 l.l. and inscribed along the lower edge; both stamped with inventory stamp on reverse
  • watercolour over pencil on paper, one with ink
  • 23.3 by 31.2cm, 9 1/4 by 12 1/4 in.; 24.5 by 32.7cm, 9 1/2 by 12 3/4 in.

Condition

The sheets have discoloured and some of the edges are roughcut. There are pinholes to some of the corners and there is some light surface dirt. Otherwise in good overall condition. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

The view of haystacks was painted from one of Benois' favourite spots in Vanzay, the bench in front of the grocer's, where he could look up and watch the swallows.
