Catalogue Note
In 1939, just before the beginning of World War II, Benois spent his last holidays in Brittany, in the village of Trébeurden. The Penvern Chapel, dedicated to Notre-Dame de Citeaux, is one of the oldest of the area and, according to local tradition, dates to 1300.
Notre Dame de la Clarté was built by a grateful sailor who was lost in heavy fog off the coast of Brittany and was able to sail safely into port by a ray of light which fell on the land.
