  • Two views of the Brittany coast
  • both signed in Cyrillic and Latin and dated 1906 in several places; the view of the Bay at Tromelin is further inscribed Primel l.l. and on the reverse, and dated VII 1905 on reverse
  • watercolour and ink on paper, one with gouache
  • 21.5 by 43.6cm, 8 1/2 by 17 1/4 in.; 26.5 by 39.5cm, 10 1/4 by 15 1/2 in.

Condition

There are some minor indentations, nicks, creases and small losses to the edges of both sheets. The sheets have discoloured. There are some creases, tears and pinholes to the corners of the Bay of Tremelin. Both unframed.

Catalogue Note

Depicting the bay at Tremelin and Cap Primel.

The Tremelin pond represented by Benois is situated in the legendary Broceliande country, in the central land of Brittany.

The Cap Primel is near the village of Primel-Tregastel, where Benois and his family stayed during the summer of 1906.
