Catalogue Note

During his visit to southern England in 1947, Benois stayed for a time at Stratton House near Cirencester. Stratton House depicts the terrace which ran alongside his ground floor appartment. During the same trip he also visited Oakley Park and the town of Fairford in Gloucestshire. He painted several views of Fairford's St. Mary's Church, which dates from 1497 and is known for the beauty of its stained glass windows.
