  • 85 cm; 58.5 cm
each centered by a cartouche depicting an offering to the god Neptune and his wife Amphitrite,  flanked by male sea-creatures blowing conqueshell, the vase supported by three young tritons emerging from seaweeds and reeds.

Condition

Overall in good condition. The vases are sturdy. As visible in the catalogue illustration, there are some scratches and tarnishing around the base. Some other traces of tarnishing to the two vases, mostly to high relief of molded details but mostly to figural handles.

Catalogue Note

The multiples scenes within the cartouche of the present vase depict the Triumph of Neptune. The nereid Amphitrite, daughter of Nerus, escape and refuse Neptune's advances, but the later sent dolphins after her in order to persuade the beautiful nereid to return and become his bride.
