Catalogue Note

Park was born in Baltimore and was active in New York as well as in Florence, Italy. Today he is best known for his Actor's Monument to the poet Edgar Allan Poe made in 1884, which is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The memorial was placed by the actors of New York to express sympathy and honor two art forms, cherished by Poe, acting and literature.
