Description

  • bronze, mahogany, marble
  • height 32 3/4 in.; width 49 1/2 in.; depth 27 1/2 in.
  • 83.5 cm; 126 cm; 70 cm
surmounted by a veined green marble top, the underside with two stencilled stamps for ALTMAN GALLERIES/AG and numbered 2141.

Condition

Overall in fair condition with tarnishing to gilt bronze, mostly to high relief of drapery and feet of figures. The marble top is a later replacement. Distress to veneers with bruises, dents, nicks and minor losses/chips around the base. The table is sturdy.

Catalogue Note

The present lot is based upon the magnificent model by Georges-Alphonse Jacob-Desmalter (d. 1870) which he made for the bedroom of Caroline Murat and was later used by Emperor  Napoléon I, in the Palais de l'Elysée in Paris in 1808. Georges-Alphonse was a student of the famous designer Jacques Percier.
