Literature

David Gebhard, et al., Kem Weber: The Moderne in Southern California, 1920 Through 1941, Santa Barbara, 1969, pp. 69-71 (for period photos of the Sommer and Kaufmann shoe store, ca. 1929)

Condition

Overall superb condition. In addition to the Carpen Furniture metal tag, the remnants of the paper shipping label are addressed to "W&J Sloane, SF" and "80S LOUNGE/SUMMER KAUFMAN JOB" There is also an original lot sticker from the Sotheby's 50/50 sale of 1993. The wood is in spectacular shape and it would appear that in some areas the macassar ebony is a veneer laid over a walnut structure. Some minor wear to the finish on the front rail. Some extremely minor seam separations to the sides of the arms. Reupholstered.
