Condition

Overall in very good condition. Minor scratches and nicks throughout. Concentrated area of scratches and nicks to proper right back corner of seat, approximately 4 inches in length. Approximately ¾ of an inch loss in length to proper left corner of seat. 8-10 small losses to back edge of base. A few very small and scattered white paint spots throughout, mainly to underside of base and diagonal base support. Two white paint stains to underside of seat, the larger is approximately two inches in diameter. Two isolated areas of stains under seat, due to handling and consistent with age and use. Accumulated surface dirt in holes drilled for bolts. All bolts appear to be original.

Catalogue Note

The present lot is one of twelve pieces produced by the workshop of Gerard van de Groenekan starting in 1959 for the van Groll family.  The commission included a total of eight zig zag stoels, four of which are now in the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
