Condition

Overall in very good condition. The abalone shade is in remarkable condition and is comprised of five individual hand-shaped abalone shells which all appear original and undisturbed. The shells with some occasional inherent stress fractures, some light surface soiling to the interior and exterior and with some minor traces of surface residue on the exterior. With three small drilled holes to the patinated copper wall plate which allow the work to be secured to the wall, and with three replaced screws that have been painted green to correspond to the wall plate. The repoussé wall plate has a very fine network of linear score lines throughout which by all accounts is inherent to the work. The patinated copper surfaces with light surface scratches, rubbing and a few small areas of patina losses. The interior socket and bakelite paddle switch appear original and undisturbed. One of the small decorative screws (there are 10 of these screws in total) which affix the shells to the copper leaves has been replaced. A highly sculptural and rare example by Burton.
