Condition

Overall excellent original condition. Please note the measurements in the catalogue as this is a large scale work. The top of the table with some rubbing to the finish and surface scratches. The wood has acquired a beautiful patina with age. The leather is a deep dark green tone and in good condition. With an oval shape discoloration to the top measuring approximately half the length of the panel and eight inches deep that appears as a result of use. This area of discoloration is opposite the seated portion and possibly was used as a partner's desk, although not designed as such. The leather portion adjacent to the person seated at the desk with some darkening to the central portion about four inches deep. This is subtle and not as noticeable as the opposite staining. Both are visible in the catalogue illustration. The rest of the leather top with shallow surface scratches and minor abrasions. . The far side to the desk top with some losses to the veneer which are approximately 8 inches by 4 inches. Please contact the department for a photograph showing this area. It is lightly visible in the catalogue illustration to left side of the desk in the back adjacent to the leather inset panel. There is a later glass top, which covers the leather inset that is being sold with the piece. With small nicks to the edges of the desk concentrated at the corners, and to the front edge closest to the user of the desk, which are visible in the catalogue illustration. All the locking mechanisms and pulls demonstrate the great attention to detail used to create this work. The interior of the drawers with surface dirt. The arm of the desk moves with ease. With a circular drink ring and two small adjacent discolorations from liquid to the top of this element, as seen in the additional images on the website and in the front matter of the auction catalogue. One of the legs with a series of the horizontal scratches which are light and easily repaired or lessened in appearance with a waxing of the wooden surfaces. For the purposes of shipping, the top is removable from the legs and the arm can be removed as well. A superb design and scale in this work by Adnet.
