Original canvas. There are a few faint signs of craquelure across the centre of the sky, either side of the dog's head, a thin line running across the dog's body, and a few areas near the dog's left foot. There is a minor surface abrasion near the left of the lower edge and there is a line of surface dirt near the lower right edge. Otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. Under ultraviolet light there is a small spot of retouching which corresponds with the above mentioned surface abrasion. Held in a black stained wood frame.
