Condition

Overall in good condition. Original gilding, some tarnishing consistent with age. The white marble with the usual minor chips to edges and dark coloration consistent with environmental effects. The grape garland that the seated bacchante and standing putti are holding show a break with traces of soldering visible, and subsequent discoloration to gilding. The small oval white marble base above the clock case and beneath the bronze group is attached to the clock with two pins, but lacks the rod for proper and secure mounting. The brass figure is set in the same manner as the former. The candle branches have a visible darker color than the fruited fine finial, puttis and bronze elements of baluster-shaped base. The acanthus leaf and pine cone cast finial is a later replacement, so are the round brass elements below the fruit decorations beneath the finial. Although the candle branches are of the same casting quality the darker coloration and different interpretation of the Louis XVI style suggest that they are a later addition and not from the original design.
