Condition

Pile ranges from 1/10" to low to knotheads in areas of scattered foldwear. Some oxidized medium browns. Some scattered minor repiling. Partially rewoven upper end guard border and outer gaurd stripe. Lower ends secured with chain stitch. Sides with original two cord cotton selvages. Fine weave, supple handle, good overall condition.

Having a border unusually narrow in proportion to the very densely-decorated field and a field decoration extending symmetrically into the reserves flanking the mihrab arch, the present lot relates to a Shirvan prayer rug dated 1294 (1877), offered Sotheby's New York, December 15, 1994, lot 10.
