In the late ninteenth century the Fonderia Chiurazzi and Sabatino De Angelis & Fils were two of the most successful firms producing plaster and bronze replicas of classical sculptures for the wealthy tourist class and a growing museum market.  During the last quarter of the nineteenth century De Angelis and Chiurazzi formed the Società Chiurazzi-DeAngelis (also known as Fonderia Riunite) to supply newly formed institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Field Museum in Chicago with well-known classical sculptures.
