Catalogue Note

The original model, known as the "surtout trois femmes à quatre vasques" was designed for Christofle around 1855. Variations on the stem figures were employed for a wide variety of forms as in the present model with one nymph holding a vase, another holding a flower bouquet, the last holding a fruit-filled basket. This celebrated centerpiece design was echoed by Christofle's competitors in England and America.
A similar centerpiece, but in silvered bronze, was sold in these rooms April 14, 2008, lot 38, for $44,200 including buyer's premium.
