Catalogue Note
These candelabra relate to a pair made in about 1780 by the bronzier Louis-Felix de Larue after a model by the sculptor Clodion (1738-1814). The de Larue candelabra are on display in the State Rooms at the Residenz, Munich, and are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. 1, p. 210, no. XXVIII. Clodion's terra cotta model, which differs from de Larue in that the putti have satyr legs, is discussed in A. Poulet and G. Scherf, Clodion, Paris, 1992, pp. 136-149.
