Sale: Sotheby's, New York, 22 February 1989, lot 65
Sale: Tajan, Paris, 22 November 2004, lot 245

Condition

The canvas has been relined. Apart from some strokes of old retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably under the horse and along the extreme upper edge addressing frame rubbing, some yellowing of the varnish, and a spot of paint lifting in the rider's right shoulder, this work is in good condition. Held in a very elaborate coved gold painted carved wood and plaster frame with oak leaf and acorn motifs and foliate scrolled motifs in the corners.
