Condition
The canvas has been re-lined onto board and re-stretched onto a new modern stretcher using the original tacking edge. The board, in turn, has been backed with a piece of canvas. The surface has been slightly flattened from the re-lining process and there is extensive old re-painting to the left background visible under ultraviolet light. Also visible under ultraviolet light are some other old re-touches in the figure, particularly in her right leg and to the lower torso addressing what could be an old vertical 8cm repaired tear. Held in a modern 19th Century style white and partly gilt wooden frame.
