Catalogue Note

Pio Fedi spent time in Vienna and Rome, where he worked in Pietro Tenerani's workshop and executed Cleopatra morente (1842) and Buon cacciatore (1843). He returned to Florence around 1844 where he received a number of prominent commissions for public monuments as well as neo-classical and genre works for private patrons. The Supreme Fisher Boy, executed at the height of the artist's career, represents the culmination of all Fedi had learned from fellow Italian masters, while revealing his own very unique sense of spontanaiety, originality, and subtle humor.
