Condition

Catalogue Note

The present work is a study for lot 27.   The Two Dancers wearing blue costumes are probably the same models for the completed painting's pair in red.  The dancers reversed position and the more subtle differences between the study and finished composition demonstrate Hermans' careful experimentation in preparation for his masterpiece, Bal Masqué.
