Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas slightly undulating in upper left and lower left corners. Small area of localised paint-lifting above the roof of the weigh-house and to the left of the figure in the foreground - we would recommend treatment to prevent paint loss. Minor flecks of paint loss; upper left corner and to the right of the large mast in the centre and to the steps. The paint surface is a little dirty and may benefit from a light clean. UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT There are areas of retouching along the lower edge and upper right edge where the paint surface has been rubbed by the rebate of the frame. Some of the pigments in the sky fluoresce which may be retouching or the artists' own layering of paint. FRAME Contained in a modern moulded frame.
