The canvas has been relined. There are faint areas of craquelure across the sky and to the sea in the centre of the painting, all of which appear stable. There is a small spot of paint loss to the foliage beneath the tree on the right. Otherwise the work appears in good overall condition.
UV light reveals retouching along all four edges. There are flecks of retouching scattered throughout the sky and in the sea in the centre of the painting. There is a line of retouching, approximately 7cm. long in the lower left corner and a horizontal line of retouching near the horizon, which corresponds to the central stretcher bar. There are some flecked retouchings to the figures and flecks of retouching in places throughout the landscape. All of the retouching has been well executed and is not visible to the naked eye.
Held in a gilt plaster frame.
