Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There are a few spots of very minor craquelure to the background and to the figure's jacket, which are only visible upon very close inspection. Otherwise the surface is in generally good overall condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV reveals an opaque varnish and an area of retouching to the left of the chick. There are a few old scattered flecked retouchings across the surface, including to places along the left, right and bottom edges, to the back wall and fish, and to the figure's jacket and hands - these are not excessive. FRAME Held in a gilt and painted plaster frame. Please telephone the department on 020 7293 5718 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
