Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas. There are a few surface abrasions in the upper left, right and lower left corners and a few spots of surface matter running about the edges. There are some isolated spots of surface dirt across the canvas otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Under UV there are some old retouchings to the upper left, right and lower left corners, faintly visible to the naked eye upon closer inspection. FRAME Contained in an ornate gilt plaster frame under glass; unexamined out of frame. If you have any questions about the present work please contact the department on 0207 293 5718.

Catalogue Note

The present picture was painted as a sketch for The Sea Mist Drifts in Shore, exhibited a the Royal Academy in 1892. The location is the village of Tresaith (Carreg y Ddafad) in Cardigan Bay. In the summer of 1891 Brett stayed in Aberporth, approximately one mile from Tresaith. This painting was owned by the landscape painter Benjamin Williams Leader.
