Catalogue Note
Pococke travelled in the eastern Mediterranean from 1737 to 1740. Volume 1 is devoted to Egypt; volume 2 to Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Cyprus, Crete, the Greek islands, Asia Minor, Thrace, Greece and other parts of Europe. This is an unusual copy of Pococke's Description in that it has a number of the plates coloured and it has his work on inscriptions bound in.
