Large folio (530 x 306mm.), 241 albumen prints (each approx. 198 x 255, or the reverse), mounted on card, mostly two to a side, recto and verso, many captioned and signed in the negative, contemporary brown cloth gilt, some minor chipping to a few photographs, small adhesion from guard to two images, some slight fading, a little light dust-soiling, lacking spine, corners rubbed

Catalogue Note

A large collection of photographs of Constantinople, comprising: 117 views in and around Constantinople, 11 portraits, 5 trades and group shots, nearly all by Abdullah Frères; 72 photographs of Pompei, Naples, Venice, Rome and Milan; 15 views in the Swiss/Italian borders and 11 views of Athens and the Acropolis. These photographs were purchased and compiled by the present owner's great-great grandparents on their honeymoon.
