Catalogue Note
A very pretty set. Pouqueville's history was first published in French in 1824. This edition in Italian is bound in 3 volumes which are numbered on the spines 1.2. / 3.4. / 5.6. However it is in fact comprised of 11 volumes as follows: "parte prima" vol.1-4, "parte seconda" vol.1-6 (with the title changed to Storia della guerra moderna... contenente i grandi avvenimenti dal 1821 al 1824), and at the end there is a continuation "dall'anno 1825 sino alla battaglia di Navarino ricavata dalle opere di Jourdan E. Soutzo" (this latter not recorded in Blackmer 1345 footnote or Droulia, but cf. Blackmer 1579 for a French edition).
The continuation by Soria was first published in this edition, in Italian. In it "the last 16 pages contain a valuable list of ancient, modern Greek and Turkish place-names. Nothing seems to be known of Soria except that he also wrote a historical novel based on the life of Ali Pasha" (Atabey).
