Catalogue Note
When the Ionian Islands were put under the protection of Great Britain in 1815, the first Lord High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Maitland, was sent to Corfu. He arrived on 16th February 1816 and decided almost immediately to establish a Constitution. The Constitution is divided into seven sections covering general organisation, the Senate, local governments, the judiciary, etc.
The printed slip, which is bound at the beginning, announces that a translation into modern Greek is under preparation. This copy differs from the collation given by Legrand and Pernot: it appears to have more preliminary leaves.
